First seeds of summer are planted

Posted on March 20th, 2020 by Heather Coffey

We're really lucky that this time of year we can run the farm in voluntary isolation easily - we don't usually have veggies going out, or staff coming in. We're busy wrapping up office work and starting in the greenhouse. Our onions and tomatoes are officially started (photo of Valerie who lives with us and Stephanie). Summer veggie bag registrations are in full swing, and I thought I'd share a few FAQs with you all!

When should you register?

We have rolling registration online for whenever you’re ready. We offer a payment plan by credit card, offline payments (e-transfer or cheque), and an early bird discount.  Anyone who pays in full by April 1st gets a $25 credit on your account for swapping and extras!

What about corona virus?

We know you'll need to eat and we need to grow. If you regularly pick up from one of our community pick up sites we will continue to run them with increased sanitation and social distancing measures. If a location is closed we will find an alternative near by. If our farmers' market pick up locations are closed due to an extended state of emergency we will set pick up times at or near the market sites. Should someone be in quarantine either as a safety precaution due to pre-existing health concerns or due to a suspected/confirmed case we will offer home delivery practicing social distancing. We want to get you your veggies. We are hopeful that all the reduced contact now will "flatten the curve", and markets can reopen.

Are you seeing income disruptions?

You're not alone. In this time of uncertainty, if you're not yet ready to commit financially (but know you'll want our veggies) we've opened up "offline payments". I recommend going to our sign-up page to register. Right at the end you'll see two buttons to choose between the payment plan, or paying in full. Below that you'll see the text "Complete Order with Offline Payment". By clicking this your share will be reserved for the season, but your deliveries won't be created until we receive payment by cheque or e-transfer. So you can relax knowing your veggies are reserved, and we can settle payment later.

Are you wondering about travelling?

Yes there’s a travel ban on now, but we’re all hoping they lift it in time for our next adventures. The traveller’s share is 14 out of 18 deliveries, and if you don’t end up travelling you can just message us and we’ll tuck the extra 4 deliveries back in. If you’re away for longer at the start or the end of the season, we can create a custom order for you to start late or end early. If your schedule is all over the place, many of you live near our Farmers’ markets (Junction, Bloor-Borden, Withrow and Belleville) and we hope to be able to stock you up there when you are in town!
