Farm Happenings for October 6-8, 2020

Posted on October 3rd, 2020 by Stephanie Bradshaw

Hi Friends,

We had a wonderful first week of the Fall season.  Thank you for your support and encouragement!  If you receive some of our Hibiscus Roselle, we recommend drying the flower pods for a few days on your counter, then removing the petals from the seed pod.  You can store these petals in a mason jar and enjoy fresh tea all winter.  Hibiscus is known for it's high vitamin C content and is great for lowering blood pressure.

We are excited to see our Green Beans starting to come in.  We don't have enough for everyone this week, but hope to have a bumper crop in the next week or so! If you enjoy eggplant, we have several of those available this week as well.  Our kale is just starting to come in - we should have more on the way soon!  Turnip Greens are always a big hit at our house.  We love to cook them in broth for a while until very wilted and then serve with white beans and corn bread!

We are making plans for our Family Farm Day in November.  We plan to host the event at the Farm in Scottsville, Ky on Saturday November 14th.  It will be a fun-filled day of wagon rides, farm tours, pony rides and plenty of time to talk all things farming!  Make plans to join us!

We are partnering again with Whitaker Farms in Gallatin, TN for the Winter Meat CSA.  If you are interested in signing up, please let me know!  We are giving away free pastured eggs for anyone who signs up and mentions Farmhouse Nashville.  We will also have pastured turkeys available again this season as well!

Hope you have a wonderful week, friends!  This weather seems to make every day a good day!!
