Farm Happenings for July 1, 2020

Posted on June 28th, 2020 by Marnie Chown

Thanks so much for being ok with us taking the week off of deliveries! We feel really good about our decision because our crops are looking great and we have lots of new items available this week including snap peas, parsley, strawberries and beets!

We were able to catch up on our to-do list around the farm including adding compost to the greenhouses, trellising the peppers and cucumbers, weeding....lots of weeding... and prepping beds for new transplants. I'm sure Pat and the crew did many more things that I am not even aware of too!

A NOTE ABOUT STRAWBERRIES:

Our berries are just starting to produce well now, we harvested throughout the week last week and were able to put some in the freezer for ourselves (which we didn't get to do last year! Yay preserving!). Now that the first "flush" has started we should have berries consistently until October because our plants are of the "everbearing" variety. Please be patient if you don't end up with any this week, there are lots coming in the months ahead!

It's hard to estimate just how many berries are out there, so if we don't have enough when we harvest we will substitute either cherry tomatoes or beefsteak tomatoes.

The tomatoes are just starting to ripen in the greenhouse now, so they will start to be available in the next couple week.
