Welcome to the other side

Posted on June 17th, 2021 by Mike Nolan

Thank you for renewing your membership! We’re thrilled to be sharing this beautiful and abundant summer harvest with you!

Major Update: We opted to merge our Farm Box and Butcher Box shares into just one farm share, on our quest to give you the ultimate choice and access to the best ethically raised local meat we can find. When you customize today, you’ll see a whole new category of options to add!

You’re always free to add as much as you need into your share, even beyond its base value. The Harvie system will show you a balance at the bottom of your customizing screen, and anything extra will simply be charged to your card on file.

If you would rather keep things simple and give a little extra support to the farm, we can also upgrade your membership to a larger share size! We appreciate it! However, it’s not necessary to upgrade in order to purchase meats. Fill your Farm Box with everything on your grocery list and enjoy!

Hi Friends!

Pictured above is our beautiful Little Gem Romaine heads getting big and strong out in Field 4. These will be available this week along with a new, larger green leaf variety and Flashy Troutback is back on the list for the prettiest salad around. The green garlic is starting to roll in, and if you've never had a fresh garlic bulb, it's a must-try. You'll also see salad mix, new crop French sorrel, spring onions, parsley, pea shoots and microgreens making a return along with some tasty apricots and dark sweet cherries we brought in from our friends at Peters to accompany those beautiful strawberries. It is time to say goodbye to apples after this week so this will be your last chance to get some Gala and Cameo before fall.

In the coming weeks, we'll start bringing in zucchinis, field cucumbers, specialty basil, fennel, onions, head cabbages, and sunflowers as we charge full speed into the height of our season which will bring everyone's favourite kaleidoscope of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants.

Looking for something new to try this week? Use tender, juicy kohlrabi bulbs like solid cabbage; delicious to serve raw and julienned in a salad/wrap or cubed and roasted in garlic oil. I just had one the other day and it was so sweet!

I also highly recommend adding celtuce to your box if you're planning to get Bekana cabbage or Bok Choy. It might look strange but it's a wonderfully mild, fresh and crisp element in any weeknight stirfry or noodle dish. If you like asparagus, you'll get along just fine!

How to use: Peel and cut stems into sticks. They're pretty tender already so they don't need much time in the wok. Chop the top greens and add at the end of cooking with green onion.

Be sure to customize your box early as this is the first week we're harvesting yummy yellow summer squash and only have 15 shares available.
