Farm Happenings July 13, 2018 + Drop Point Accuracy

Posted on July 8th, 2018 by Mike Nolan

Hello Friends

Yesterday's Deliveries to DC and MD were not as smooth as I would have liked. We were short on eggs at Mt. Rainier and it's on us.  I have been doing the deliveries myself thus far but am out of town this weekend and there was a mixup....obviously.  I am very sorry and we will of course get your eggs to you next week.

From the drop point side we have had some members taking extra items and this is a real problem for all of us.  Please be careful and follow your own list with precision.  When I do deliveries I triple check the counts before leaving the drop points.  Unless there is a problem with the website data entry then all numbers should be correct.  We will spend extra time this week making sure everything is right.  Please do the same on your end.  I am fully aware that you have entrusted us with a lot of your food budget this season and I want to make sure each of you has satisfaction.  If your items are missing email us right away and we will do what we can to fix it that day or the following week.

From the farm:

We are picking carrots now and this week will see the return of zucchini and now cabbage.  In the greenhouse we have been busy pruning tomatoes and literally watching them grow in front of our eyes!  The grafted plants are taking off like rockets.  Lots of fruit on the plants and I can't wait to start picking.  In the field we have new varieties of kale (toscano and standard curly) as well as watermelon radishes this week!  These are a unique variety and I hope you will try them - sweet radish flavor and incredible colors when sliced!  The peppers and eggplants have begun fruiting now too and another round of beets will be ready to pick soon too. The romaine lettuce did so well that I got excited and planted more.  I thought that the flavor was respectable considering the heat.
