Farm Share Week 20, 2020

Posted on November 1st, 2020 by Gail and Maurice Smith

We hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!  There are some advantages of being stuck on the home front.  It is seriously doubtful that Halloween celebration imaginations would have been this hard at work under normal circumstances.  Congrats to all who made it fun and eventful for the kids.

As you can see by the above photo our Grandson Steven was using his imagination while out helping with the Brussels Sprout harvesting.  "Look Grandma, I am a farmer outstanding in my field thinking about the summer crops". (As you know all good farmers chew on a piece of grass while thinking.)  Apparently, this young farmer had a lot to think about by the size of his grass.

This is week 20 of the 20 weeks of farming together for the summer season.  We thank you for supporting your local farmers.  Eating by the season has it's challenges if you haven't done so before.  Gives you a better understanding and meaning to eating under a local umbrella.  Many of the foods we take for granted like avacados are not a local item.  Easy to forget when in the past all theses choices were so easily available.  Hopefully, this stay at home deal has given you some time to reflect and a new appreciation for your surroundings and your people.  DragSmith Farms chose to keep feeding the people the best way we knew how for the 2020 season.  In another year we aren't sure where that journey will take us. We will finish our kitchen and sales area in the Red Shed.  The construction should give us more avenues for things to come. Keep in touch and watch for fun updates.  Never know what our imagination stations will do!

Several of you have indicted that you will continue to receive a farm share box for 6 more weeks.  Please be sure your information is up to date so the transition during the week of November 8th runs smooth. If you haven't enrolled yet and would like to, give us a call or contact the Harvie farm site.  Once again thank you very much.  Please return your empty boxes to your drop site.
