Farm Happenings for May 21, 2021

Posted on May 16th, 2021 by Michael Hoke

All of this extra sunlight has our fruiting crops taking off! Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are abundant in the greenhouse, and we're just harvesting our first beefsteak tomatoes. This week, we'll have two varieties of cucumbers: English and Japanese. The Japanese are smaller but slightly sweeter with a juicier crunch. Our greenhouse peppers are just beginning to turn orange, so we expect to have some available in the near future. Our herbs (mint, thyme, rosemary, basil and chives) can add lots of fresh flavour to your dishes! We will be harvesting plenty of greens; spinach in particular is great at this time of year. Today, we're planting our first potatoes of 2021, and we couldn't be more excited!

We have lots of new seasonal items to offer you this week. Asparagus from Mazak Farms, rhubarb and asparagus from Orchard Hill Farm, and fiddleheads, broccoli, celery, strawberries, oranges, apples, and bananas from Pfennings will all be available to order.

Thank you for all of your support,

Sarah
