Farm Happenings for March 26, 2021

Posted on March 22nd, 2021 by Michael Hoke

Happy Spring! This is when work at the farm really starts to pick up! With all the extra sunlight, everything starts growing faster- including weeds! We're working hard to keep weed pressure low in the hoophouses and we're beginning to prep our fields for our first outside plantings. Today, we seeded our celery and celeriac, as well as our first kohlrabi, endive and escarole. We'll be keeping busy the rest of this week with transplanting, hoophouse relocation, and trellising our greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes. We can't believe how much they've grown over the weekend!

Be sure to add some parsnips to your order this week. Their time under the snow has made them very sweet and they would be perfect roasted or chopped into a stew. Although we won't have much salad mix available, we will have lots of delicious chard so you don't miss out on your leafy greens. We will also have celery, broccoli, yellow peppers and naval oranges from Pfennings this week.

As always, thank you for your support!
