Farm Happenings for July 9, 2020

Posted on July 4th, 2020 by Chris DeVries

We are struggling a bit with a couple of our greenhouse crops, like the peppers shown above.  You may have noticed there are not that many available yet.  It's a new crop for us and the aphids in the greenhouse have overwhelmed the crop.  We're doing our best to encourage beneficial insects and still hoping to have a big summer crop of them.  The good news is that our outside planted peppers are looking very good.  Hot weather like this definitely favours pepper and tomatoes later in the summer!

This week we have swiss chard and cabbage that we are bringing in from Pfennings to supplement our veggies.  We do this some weeks for things that are either not on our crop list, or we have a shortage of.  For example, we are between cabbage plantings and our chard is suffering from leaf miner damage (but a new crop will be ready within a week or so).  We are always clear in the vegetable list:  if it is not from our farm it will state it clearly in the listing.  Next week we expect to have blueberries!
