Farm Happenings for July 2, 2020

Posted on June 27th, 2020 by Chris DeVries

Parsnips are up!  We may be just getting into our summer crops now, but I am actually busy planting and tending to a fair number of fall and winter crops already.

A note about share sizes and item values:

  • Sharing in seasonal abundance is a key benefit of signing up with us for an entire season. One of the ways we do this is by discounting the effective price of items that go into CSA boxes relative to the price available at market or through farmstand orders. The outcome is that as the season progresses and we're able to harvest more, you will get more in your weekly box. As an example, here is a list of some of the items we have lots of right now and the prices this week that members pay compared to non-members:
      Member price Market price
    2 lb carrots $5.00 $6.00
    cilantro $2.00 $3.00
    salad mix $5.00 $6.00
    green onions $2.50 $3.00

  • Keep in mind that the amount and variety of vegetables that goes into a "share" for our CSA will vary with the season.  If this is your first time trying a CSA subscription with a farm (as I know we have a lot of new members this year) this can take some getting used to.  In the late summer months, it is likely you will have the opportunity to get larger volumes of veggies that can be frozen / processed, etc.

I will try to let you know in these happenings which items we have that are at their peak season.  This week we have salad, lettuce, carrots, cabbage, and some herbs in abundance.

As always, if you have any questions or comments about your orders please email us at support@commongroundfarm.ca
