Farm Happenings for August 1, 2019

Posted on July 28th, 2019 by Chris DeVries

Mid summer is here and with it we are busy planting the large fall plantings of our root crops and storage crops.  In fact over the next 2 weeks we will have most all of it planted and then the care of all the carrots, beets, cabbage and other crops will occupy a lot of our time for August and September.  It's one of our favourite times of the summer!

Notes:

Eggs - we are a bit short this week, so very sorry if you can't get them in your share this time.  There should be plenty next week.

Sweet Corn - I'm told we will have some organic sweet corn from Orchard Hill next week.  Hopefully enough that everyone can have some in their share.

Blueberries - We will have pints and flats (12 pints) from Blueberry Hill in Rodney again this week and probably next week.

Bulk orders - This is the time of year to think about bulk processing you might want to do.  We currently have pickling cucumbers but soon will also have tomatoes in larger quantities for canning.  We will also be able to do larger batches of basil soon.  If there's anything you are interested in for larger quantities that I haven't thought of, please ask me as often by mid August we can do it.
