Making it through the summer!

Posted on September 25th, 2019 by Lisa Merva

The weather doesn't show it, but all the greens coming on are a sure sign that fall is coming. It's been a rough summer! I asked Susan at Hickory Hill Farm for a little update for you all:

"Summer is winding down; the year is coming to an end and it’s hard to believe that it has gone so fast.  August and September have been brutal for the fall plantings, it’s been hot and dry, yet things are still moving along in a positive direction.  We are looking forward to bringing you great root crops, lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower and greens for the fall and winter and we hope you enjoy them."

Farmers have a keen sense of the seasonal cycle, so there's always something to look forward to!

For those of you with an Independent Baking Co. Bread Share, this week your selection will be....

French Country!

Mixed grain bread of the French countryside with stoneground wholegrain wheat, spelt, and rye flours. Made with heirloom whole wheat flour.

Without further ado... let's eat!
