Half way through a season of local goodness!

Posted on September 18th, 2019 by Lisa Merva

Can it be? We are heading into week 7 of our 14 week Fall CSA.

The season straddles summer and fall, and I love to see members' excitement as new crops come in. Eating locally grown foods connects us to this place and its rhythms in such a palpable way, doesn't it?

If you've been thinking about ordering one of the beautiful Moranga Pumpkins  (see pic!) offered by Fry Farm, don't delay! We'll continue to offer them until they run out, but they've been very popular with local restaurants and with Fry's market customers so we're not sure how much longer they'll be available. This beauty is a Brazilian heirloom best known as one of the main ingredients in the traditional dish, ‘Camarão na Moranga’ which means ‘shrimps in a squash.’ Adore Foods has a great recipe for it here. It's the perfect comfort fall Sunday dinner idea. If you aren't quite ready to turn on that oven, know that the Moranga will store nicely until you are... and in the meantime you can enjoy it as a decoration!

The Original Hummus from the Daily Groceries Deli has been quite a hit, so this week we are adding another yummy side from our favorite little locally owned grocery store...  I think you could say that V'egg Salad has something of a cult following here in Athens. It's a tofu-based mock version of egg salad and there's nothing quite like it... When you crave it, nothing else will do. Sure, it's vegan-friendly, but meat-eaters get addicted to it too! On a sandwich, scooped up with a tortilla chip or by the spoonful, it is a great protein-rich snack to have around. Check out the Vendor Products page on our website for ingredients and info about all the awesome local goodies we carry.

This week, those of you with an Independent Baking Co. Bread Share will get...

Five Points Levain!

Local Athens sourdough with an open crumb and mild flavor

Without further ado... Let's eat!
