Farm Happenings for September 2, 2020

Posted on August 27th, 2020 by Jodi Danyo

New this Week:  Orient Express and Michal Eggplants!  Green beans are starting too!

This Week at the Farm:

Rain!  Finally.  We had a couple inches of rain at the farm this week.  It's not enough to reverse the drought conditions that we have been experiencing these last three months, but it's a start.  We are excited for a few new crops starting this week - eggplants and beans in somewhat limited quantities as production ramps up.  Beans will be in full production in another week or so.  And, we're excited to see the impact of this much needed rain on our fall crops.

Fall plantings continued last week with more beets, barese chard, head lettuce, and arugula.  This week, we'll be wrapping up plantings of kohlrabi, pac choi, leeks, sorrel, and of course, more head lettuce!

Farm Partner Feature:  Steel Cup Coffee Roasters

When we were searching for the perfect coffee to serve in our Farm Market & Cafe in Burgettstown, we were lucky to find Steel Cup Coffee Roasters, owned by Doug and Daria Pinto.  Located in Penn Hills, Doug and Daria say that their beans are roasted with care in small quantities to ensure the quality, consistency, and exceptional flavor of each batch.  Steel Cup Coffee Roasters is a Pennsylvania Certified Organic roasting facility, where only Fair Trade and USDA Certified Organic coffees are roasted.  Try out the selection of deliciously smooth, light, medium and dark roasts available in the Extras this week!
