Farm Happenings for August 26, 2020

Posted on August 25th, 2020 by Jodi Danyo

New this Week:  Sugar Baby Watermelons!  Salad mix is also back in limited quantities.

This Week at the Farm:

No rain again this week (sigh).  But honestly, we are tired of talking about it!

Instead, we are going to share some positivity this week because watermelons make us happy, very happy.  We harvested the first of the sugar baby watermelons on Thursday, and they are melt in your mouth delicious! (Of course, we had to have a snack.)  You will not want to miss these, and they will only be available in shares for the next couple of weeks.  (Also, the really large melons, 10 lbs +, will be available in the Extras only.  Please note that these will be delivered in a separate box marked with your name, not inside your share bag).  Despite all the complaining about the heat and drought (you were forewarned about our weather complaining), we cannot grow amazing melons in PA without heat and so we have found our first silver lining of this summer's weather!  This may be the best crop of melons in CVO's history!

Also, please take some extra care to support your share bags from underneath.  These melons are heavy.

We will be continuing our two week Member Appreciation Event this week.  If you did not receive one last week, a free CVO lip balm will be included in your share this week.  In case you haven't heard, our lip balm is the absolute best!  Not only is it made from organic, food-grade ingredients (not petroleum), but it actually works!  Imagine that?

Seasonal Lip Balm

This coming week, we will continue our fall plantings with kohlrabi, cabbage, arugula, turnips, radishes, and of course, more lettuce!  Have a great week!
