Turkeys! and harvesting in the rain!

Posted on July 14th, 2021 by Daniel Zimmerli

We have some big news that we'll share more details about in the coming weeks: we are raising turkeys for Thanksgiving! We got our first turkey chicks in this past week and they are tucked away safely in their brooder until they are mature enough to handle our new pasture. This our first attempt at raising turkeys but we are confident that we can raise turkeys with our experience raising both laying hens and broiler chickens. Stay tuned to our social media for updates on how the turkeys are doing and what they are up to.

We are planning on selling our turkeys through something new we're trying this year: a one time "Thanksgiving Holiday Share!" This share will include one of our turkeys and will include a large selection of our fall crops including carrots, potatoes, beets, herbs, garlic, lettuce, winter squash and more. Like your regular CSA share they will be full customizable so you can get the perfect amount of sides for your Thanksgiving feast! Our timely rainfall continues for a third week. We're feeling really blessed to be receiving so much rain as of late and we know there are many farmers, Dan's parents included, who are experiencing one of the worst droughts in decades. As I write this it is currently raining in most of the southern half of the state. We were lucky enough to finish most of our Wednesday harvest before the rain!
