Winter came early?

Posted on November 1st, 2019 by Melinda Hollyfield

We woke up to temps in the 20 yesterday and boy were we caught off guard! It looks like winter came early, or maybe it's just visiting for a few days. Well our "Winter" CSA has officially begun and we are so glad to have you! I think it is safe to say it is chestnut roasting season so be sure to check out our "extras" to get some for roasting over your open fires! We also have heirloom corn meal that we grew and milled ourselves. Perfect for corn bread, polenta, grits, corn muffins, and more!

This season you can expect a variety of greens like lettuce, arugula, kale, collards, as well as sweet potatoes, some amazing new squash varieties (my favorite is the tetsu kabotu- so sweet and creamy!), potatoes, and more! If you would like any specific items in bulk for your holiday party needs please do not hesitate to reach out!

For those of you with meat shares we have some exciting new products! We just got back a garlic pepper pork sausage! Pork, salt, garlic powder, black pepper- and that's it! We try to keep it as natural as possible. Speaking of natural, we just got back our naturally cured ham roasts and bacon. This bacon is the best we have had yet. It is smoked and naturally cured with celery and cherry powder, then slightly sweetened with 100% maple syrup, brown sugar AND organic cane sugar. we can't get enough of it on that farm. The new recipe is very clean and we are so pleased. For those of you wanting hams, we will have a few size options. The ham roasts are 2-4 lbs, smoked and naturally cured, and look like a cross cut section of a bone-in ham- perfect for a get together of 2-6 people. We will also have whole boneless hams around 7-10 pounds, and a few bone in hams, hock and all, that are about 15 lbs. Keep an eye out for an email in a couple weeks about ordering. We are doing a delivery the week before Thanksgiving so you don't have to store them in your freezer for so long. If you would like a delivery the Tuesday right before Thanksgiving we can also accommodate that for an additional $7 charge as a home delivery.

Lastly, we have steaks! It is hard to come by organically raised 100% grass fed steaks like these, partly because you don't get many steaks per animal, but also because we ensure our cows have access to the proper nutrition they need. We think there is a perfect amount of intra-muscular high quality fat marbling. We are proud of how happy and healthy our animals are and that we are able to give you the highest quality product because of that.

We hope you had a very happy Halloween and that your Thanksgivings are filled with lots of good food (hopefully from us)!
