Farm Happenings, Week of August 29, 2022

Posted on August 26th, 2022 by Melinda Hollyfield

Hey CSA Family!

This week marks the beginning of September -- WOW. As farmers, we are weary of the premature fall-oriented excitement that usually begins around this time of year. We know that, even in September, the Summer remains strong, and our work remains determined. While our patch of winter squash are growing, so too are our cucumbers, tomatoes, and eggplant. But, we're not gonna lie -- we cannot wait for fall either ;).

In livestock news, it's breeding season for our cows. Our bull, Durabull, is in with the mamas. We can't wait for another successful year of calving! Our sheep are doing well, too! And the pigs are having a blast in their new fields. Again, shoutout to our livestock team for stewarding the health and wellbeing of these animals with the utmost care.

Be sure to check out our "extras" this week, which you can add to your cart during the customization period. This week, we are offering organically raised eggs from Maypop Farmstead, and handcrafted and organically grown teas, tinctures, and elixirs from local Nashville herbalist The Healing Oracle Herbal Apothecary. Check them out! These extras make great gifts!

For our Veggie CSA members, here are the organic veggies that you'll find in this week’s CSA box:

Basil

Pac Choi

Eggplant

Sweet Peppers

Specialty Peppers

Chard or Kale

Endive or Head Lettuce

Bunching Onions

Summer Squash

Cucumbers

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Please double check your delivery schedule to be sure you know when and where to pick up your CSA. When you arrive to your CSA pick-up location, please check in with the staff so they can mark you down for the pickup!
  • For Veggie CSA members: The veggies in the Summer CSA are not customizable. Each member will receive the same veggies each week. However, you can use the customization period to add "extras" to your order. Try some organically raised eggs or organic teas and tinctures made by a local artisan!

Let us know what you're cooking on our Caney Fork Farms CSA Facebook group and be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with farm happenings!

"Extras" are not produced by Caney Fork Farms, and therefore, may not be recognized as meeting our certifications and standards.
