Caney Fork Farms CSA Newsletter - December 3, 2021

Posted on December 1st, 2021 by Melinda Hollyfield

Welcome to the Caney Fork Farms Winter CSA!

We are grateful to be growing your food. Each week we'll be sending you this email newsletter to keep you updated on farm happenings, let you know what's coming in your CSA box, and share recipes. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook, and join our Caney Fork Farms CSA Facebook group to share your recipes, ask questions and get connected with our community. Note: this newsletter is for both meat and veggie CSA members, so if you don't have both CSAs, you can ignore the parts that are not relevant to you!

This week our veggie crew has been planting out any last transplants, making sure the greenhouse doors are open when it's warm and closed at night, and harvesting lots of ginger, carrots and beets. We are so THANKFUL for greenhouses and row covers that keep our veggies warm and safe from freezing temps! This week we'll be sending sweet potatoes, winter squash, the last of our Napa cabbages, plus other leafy greens and more. We'll list ginger as an add on in case you want some of that too!

Our animals are also staying warm and fed as they they enjoy hay (that we grew!) and cool season forage. We just took 23 pigs to the slaughterhouse to be processed into meat to feed our winter CSA members. We're officially in our biggest meat harvest season, so we'll be offering lots of options for swaps and add ons as we attempt to make space in the freezer. What cuts are you hoping to receive this winter? What are you cooking with your CSA veggies and meats? Let us know at info@caneyforkfarms.com OR on our exclusive CSA member Facebook group

Happy eating!

Meet and Greet at Honeytree Meadery

We want to meet you! Join us for a meet and greet at our east Nashville CSA pick up location, Honeytree Meadery, on December 10th from 2-5pm. We would love to get to know the people we are growing food for, and let you have a chance to meet the hands tending your vegetables and raising animals. While this establishment brews and serves mead, an alcoholic beverage, this is a family friendly place with a lovely outdoor patio (there are heaters). Hope to see you there!
