Farm Happenings for August 25, 2020

Posted on August 21st, 2020 by Melinda Hollyfield

My goodness August is flying by. We have officially seeded most of the fall greens in the greenhouse, and have gotten some of our greens in the ground. Check out our Instagram page to see a video of the veggie crew planting arugula with our new paper pot seeder! Soon we'll be harvesting your winter squashes! In livestock world, the animals continue to be moved daily. Excavator work on the property means the cows are able to spend a few days foraging in zone typically unavailable to them. The pigs are super happy eating all the vegetables that don't make it to your CSA boxes. The lambs have been weaned and are officially foraging in their own pasture. Weaning is a necessary step in all mammals lives, and do it in the least stressful way we can. By the time we wean the lambs, they have already been grazing forage for the majority of their diet as they now have a fully developed digestive system. Basically, we're all eating good over here and we hope you are enjoying your summer bounty as well!
