June 5th Happenings

Posted on June 5th, 2020 by Melinda Hollyfield

Happy June! Spring sure has blown by and we are excited for all the fruits of summer. We have some young trees that are starting to bare fruit, peaches and figs and plums! These aren't quite on production scale yet but they sure are a nice treat to break up the long hot days on the farm.

What's in the box: Remember, farming is dynamic and sometimes it doesn't go completely as planned. While this is our best guess of what will be in the box, sometimes we have to sub things based on availability.

  • Baby Greens
  • Baby Carrots- Okay maybe it's a little too hot for soup but check out the Carrot Top Pesto part of this recipe. Hint: Add some basil!
  • Basil
  • Bunching Onions
  • Lettuce
  • Fennel- We couldn't choose just one so check out all of these delicious fennel recipes from Love and Olive Oil.
  • Italian Greens- You may find some escarole and/or frisee in your box this week.
  • Broccoli
  • Cima di Rapa- Rapini, broccoli rabe, brassica shoots... what's the difference? I'm not sure but here is an easy way to prepare it with some sausage.
  • Summer Squash (if ready)

Extras: Right now extras are only available to those with a meat share.

  • Flowers- Grown right here are the farm! We are starting the season off with these gorgeous mini bouquets.
  • Lettuce head packs- from Caney Fork Farms
  • Whole Chickens- Pasture raised, Non-GMO chickens from Underground Farmers
  • Bread- Sourdough, Baguettes, Olive Baguette, and Brioche loaves from Lillian St. Bread. We pick this bread up freshly baked on Tuesday morning. It might even be warm when you get it!
  • Honey- Sourwood, Light, and Dark Wildflower honey from TN Artisan Honey
  • Mushrooms- Lions Mane and Oysters locally grown from Henonis Mushrooms
