The Future is Now

Posted on June 10th, 2020 by Danielle Boerson

Here on the farm, life is thriving.  Plants are growing like mad in the ever-lengthening days, baby calves are dropping out in the pasture, and a team of passionate growers and volunteers are stitching together a colorful quilt of carrots, salad, cucumbers, radishes, onions, sunshine and rain.

As we maneuver our way into the season, we're discovering just how much this farm has to offer.  The beautiful soil here goes a long way towards producing an abundance of healthy, delicious vegetables.  Each morning when I walk over from the house, I witness a string of small miracles that begins, in the first place, with our being here on this land.  This first miracle is followed by every growing leaf and stalk I pass along the way.  Chard, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, garlic and lettuce; growing, growing every day.  The view from the hill, along with my sense of purpose, is enough to take my breath away for the moment.  I recall just how far we traveled to get here to this place and to live this life.  The future, which always stood out ahead of me, is suddenly Now.

In this moment, we are growing food for the community and living our dream.  Being present in this work and focusing on our goal of building soil and health is part of what makes the carrots so sweet and the kale so tender.  We hope that you enjoy (and even love!) being a part of our farm this season.  Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or thoughts about the food or any part of the CSA process.

This is our first season as a Harvie farm, and we do anticipate a small learning curve for both ourselves and our members, but transitions give way to the familiar, and I have a sense that it will easily become a routine that we all look forward to every week.

Eat well and be well,

Danielle
