Posted on October 18th, 2021 by Ayla Dodge

Hello Fall share members!

what a gorgeous day today!  Thank you to all who made it out on Saturday.  It was a lovely day and we had more people than anticipated.  Lots of hayrides, pumpkin picking and animal onlooking. forgot to take pictures!

This weeks box is a great example of how much our fields are still producing in mid-October! We only just had a frost this weekend so crops have been growing fast well into October, whereas they usually slow down or stop completely.  We are sorry to say  we had a crop fail of rutabaga.  They were looking great but when we went to harvest about 95% of them had a rotten core...

One more week to go for Fall boxes!  We still have plenty of pastured pork, chicken and beef in our freezer and will continue to sell and do home delivery throughout the winter.  We will be picking back up the monthly Farm Stand deliveries, too.  We will have vegetables for your Holiday needs! stay tuned for info on that!

What you may see in the box this week:

Orange carrot bunch- A nice crisp bunch of fresh sweet carrots! Top to last longer.

Leeks (half shares)- These can be made into a soup or cassarole.  Do not use the dark green part, only the white and light green stalk.

onions (full shares)- storage onions.

SURPRISE CAULIFLOWER FOR HALF SHARES!

Tokyo Bekana Asian Green- This is a crisp, napa style green that you can stir fry or even eat raw as a salad or use a a wrap.

Thai Larb (Laab) Salad use leaves for wrap

Potatoes- russet or other white storage. Do not store in the refrigerator- as the starches will turn to sugar, but if you take out of the fridge for a few days they will start to convert back to starch.

Brussels Sprouts-These get better as the colder nights and frosts sweeten them up a bit.  Store in a container or plastic bag.

Parmesan Roasted Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts

Autumn Frost Butternut Squash and Thelma Sanders Acorn- Both of these are a really nice heirloom type squash are sweet and adaptable for soups, roasting or pan cooking.  Keep on the counter.

Purple Diakon Radishes- We had some nice yields of these this week.  They will store for a long time in the fridge.  really great sliced thin in a salad, on a sandwich or also just as a dipping snack.

Purple Diakon Chips

Cilantro (half shares)- So great as a topping for soups, burritos, eggs, and more.  Keep in a plastic bag so it does not wilt.

Herb Bunch Trio (Full shares) Thyme, oregano, marjoram and Sage for a great soup bunch!  These herbs will keep for a couple weeks or you can hang dry and mix  for a chicken/soup herb bunch.

Spinach- Fall spinach is the best!  Keeps well but also will cook down or wilt for a quick green in any dish.

Palak Paneer Curry

Zesty Greens Mix- .5 lb of fresh nutrient dense greens.  So great as a salad!

French Breakfast Radishes- These crisp, spicy radishes add a punch to salads or sandwiches but also are great sliced thin onto a buttered piece of toast!
