Hello Members! Please click on continue Reading to see our newsletter.

It got hot again!  This might help the field tomatoes push for a while longer, as well as the peppers.  The hoop house peppers and tomatoes are still looking excellent and I am not seeing any disease yet.  The melons and sweet corn will both have their last week this week.  The beans are having a bizarrely good year so that is why you are getting so many.  I am adding on a case for you to order, too, if you want for canning, freezing or pickling.  I wish we had greens for you right now, but have struggled with the lettuces bolting and getting white flies (which make it rot), but we are turning a corner here soon and will have arugula next week and then going forward should hopefully be able to have green in every box.  Radishes will also make their comeback next week.

On the farm, we are putting in cover crops in fallow beds, planning for what will happen to these plots next year, mowing and turning beds over.  We are working on new paddocks for our cows, and the pigs are growing really nicely.

We still have room in our fall share CSA.  This will start the week of October 1st and go for 4 weeks for a full share and every other week for 2 weeks for a half share. It will contain many favorites and lots of other things, too.  Carrots, beets, onions and garlic, herbs, greens, spinach and salad mix, turnips and radishes, lettuces, cabbage, brussels sprouts, potatoes, rutabaga, celeriac, kale and collards, and more!  If you want a fall share continuation you can sign up for a FULL OR HALF SHARE HERE

Here is what is in the box this week:

Beets, bulk- These will keep in a plastic bag in the fridge for months.  Beet Salad with Feta, Cucumbers and Dill

Celery- We have struggled with a pest in our celery this year.  Next year, we will try growing our celery in the hoop houses so mitigate this issue.  So, this is cutting celery and it has a strong flavor!  You can use the leaves, too, but they are a little tough with all the heat.  Store in a plastic bag in the fridge.  Purple Potato Salad with Celery

Cornbread Dressing with Sausage and Celery

Egg Salad

Mix of Snap Beans- 1 lbs each again this week.  Beans with Garlic and Oil

Melon- cantaloupe or watermelons- last week for melons.  They should all be ripe. Refrigerate.

Sweet corn- Last week for corn.  Make sure to refrigerate your corn to keep it from turning starchy.

Tomatoes- Lots of tomatoes this week.  Red and Hierlooms.  DO NOT REFRIGERATE.  They will keep a better flavor and texture.

Cherry Tomatoes- Our cherry tomatoes decided to explode this week, so we think you will be getting these for a while longer!

Tomatillos 2 lbs - Tomatillos are great for fresh salsa or enchiladas.  Homemade Roasted tomatillo Enchilada Sauce

Peppers, sweet- Peppers are starting to really turn color now, so you will be getting only colored peppers this week, most likely orange and red.  Sweet!

Peppers, hot- a mix of red habanero, jalapeno and orange or yellow hot wax!

garlic - 2 bulbs

Purple Potatoes!  These delicacies are very nutritiously dense and flavorful.  I would NOT recommend mashing, but instead roasting, baking or lightly boiling for a potato salad.

dill- A much nicer bunch than last time! Very frondy and great for potato salad!

Swiss chard- Swiss Chard Frittata

Onions curing in the greenhouse

about a 1/4 of our harvested onions

Last weeks box- eating the rainbow!

Have a great week!
