Farm Happenings for August 22, 2023

Posted on August 20th, 2023 by Rae Strobel Barr

hello friends, no serious weather events to report in Kentucky this week!   that's a relief.   On the other side of the country, my sister and her family are experiencing major flooding issues in San Diego County, California right now.   On the other side of the Earth, one of my good farmer friends has been living on Maui since 2018, and the fires there affected the whole island.  It seems my thoughts and feelings are constantly affected by weather events.    On this planet we all live in constant relationship with the Earth whether we realize it our not.   Often we realize our deep Earth-dependancy during these natural disasters, and yet every bite of food on our plates comes from the soil.    So I would say in balance we more often receive blessings from the Earth than the disasters.     Unfortunately, only the disasters make the news, and rightly so since so many people could lose their homes, livelihoods or worse yet their lives.   Everyday I live, I would like to try and live in a balanced relationship with Mother Earth.   She gives us so much more than she takes away.
