Farm Happening for July 24

The cucurbit family is kicking in!... with loads of Zucchini and now cucumbers are getting started.

Meet 2 of our summer interns  - Brodie and Elliot, attired in gear for washing CSA bins (a never-ending job) and posing in front of some beautiful rows of newly-germinated fall carrots.  We are so thankful for our interns who do a lot of work on the farm - the CSA program wouldn't be what it is without them!  A Rocha's internship is a residential program - folks commit to living, eating and working together in community.  They receive teaching and mentoring and the opportunity for practical work experience in their chosen area.  Aside from the farm, interns are also involved in Environmental Education and Conservation Science programs.  We've also had folks focus their internship in some important "behind the scenes" roles such as maintenance, hospitality or communications!  We consistently receive feedback that these weeks of internship are life-transforming for participants and we are consistently grateful for the amazing people we are blessed to get to know!

Our fall internship begins in September and we are seeking folks to join the Brooksdale community for another 12-week term.  Given the global pandemic and the difficulty of travel, we are focusing our search on Canadian applicants.  We currently have NO interns confirmed for September... Do you know someone who would be interested in the internship program?  Please send them our way, or refer them to our website for details!

Going on vacation?  You can reschedule a share - meaning that you would receive 2 shares on a different week.  Or you can "hold" a share - i.e. cancel it for that week.  When you place a hold you not charged further for what you would owe on that delivery (most of you have paid 50% already and we do not refund this earlier payment, but you would not be charged for the other 50% owed on that week).  You are limited to 3 holds per season.  It is also an option to arrange for a friend or family member to get your share when you are away - this is a great way to share the CSA experience with someone in your life.  If a new person is picking up your box, be sure to provide them with clear instructions on where to go, and how to do the pickup!

Also note that you can change delivery locations for a week - eg. if you pick up at the farm on Tuesday you could switch that to the Friday of the same week, and vise versa.  Or switch from Mount Pleasant on Friday to South Burnaby on Tuesday.

Harvie "University" has a more thorough explanation of how holds, rescheduling and location changes work if you need details.  Please remember to make these changes a week in advance of the date that you want to change!
