Farm Happenings for March 28, 2023

Posted on March 24th, 2023 by John Zilnicki

The last week of March is upon us and we can all feel that itch that spring is right around the corner.  Farmers have started to head to the fields to do some early season prep work.  We have been busy spreading compost and manure on our fields to help build our soils back up.  We have been on a real mission the last 5 to 6 years, of rebuilding our tired soils, incorporating different cover crops, manures and compost, and changing overall philosophies and breaking from the mainstream commercial agriculture we were brainwashed to believe was the only way to make a living.  We take full ownership of our faults, decisions, and short comings in the past, as we truly believed it was the best way to grow a specific crop.  As we have fully embraced the information age, (my dad has a flip phone and doesn't use a computer) we have educated ourselves of other ways, heard success stories, and implemented many new practices, or practices of the past that are tried and true still the best.  The future looks bright!

Have a great weekend!

Your Farmer,

John

P.S. My dad is ahead of the game by not having a smart phone.. we all are envious!
