Farm Happenings for November 9, 2021

Posted on November 5th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

First week of November is in the books and we finished digging potatoes this week and it can now officially feel like late fall for us on the farm.  Now we pull the potatoes out of storage, wash them, grade them and ship them out throughout the tri-state area.  Its a labor of love, and honestly we are a dyeing breed.  Soon, the vast potato fields that covered Long Island will be a thing of the past.

This weeks CSA builder will include the turkeys in the 'extras' segment of ordering.  We are excited to get our hands on fresh, pasture raised turkeys.  The turkeys will be on a sliding scale from 10-12 up to 18-20lbs, and they will be $6 a pound.  I'm looking to place the turkey order Saturday night, which will be before the end of CSA customization so if you are even on the fence about a turkey let me know.

Also, I will be heading to Shelter Island this weekend to visit a small farm that raises pigs.  Several CSA members have asked about pork and I'm on the look out and will let you know how my visit goes.

Enjoy the weekend and keep enjoying those goodies!

Your Farmer,
