Farm Happenings for October 19, 2021

Posted on October 16th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Halfway through October already even though it has felt like early September outside lately.  Above average temperatures are nice but the fall crops aren't a real fan of hot dry weather.  It speeds up the growth and broccoli especially doesn't like this.

Update on potato harvest: We are 2/3rds done and switched to our last field.  However, as we were finishing up one field and getting ready to transport, the starter on our tractor died.  We had to switch tractors, change some electrical components and were able to resume digging, 36 hours later.  Then we encountered some more set backs, but I think we are past those hurdles and will be able to rock and roll this weekend.  If you aren't already following us on Instagram @zilnickifarms, do it!  You get to see a lot of behind the scenes of what is going on and how the whole potato harvest goes.

Enjoy this gorgeous weather this weekend and keep enjoying those goodies!

Your farmer,

John
