Farm Happenings for August 6, 2020

RAIN! FINALLY!

The first significant amount of rain since asparagus season! Along with the hottest July ever recorded, it's been quit the planting and seeding season! It's a struggle to get winter storage crops germinated in 30C+ and planting in dirt that resembles dust. Most of our time this season this far has been watering things to keep them alive and to get seeds to germinated.

So this week, with all my irrigation time freed up, we got all the winter carrots weeded, more zucchini planted (since the first batch was a flop), weeded next years strawberries, pruned the greenhouse tomatoes, weeded the leeks, seeded winter beets & row cultivated everything!

Soon to come, new seeded batch of lettuce is almost ready again for leaf lettuce & some romaine heads. Melons are starting to set and some greenhouse peppers are starting to turn color. So things are getting there!
