Farm Happenings for August 13, 2020

Tomatoes are in full force! Above is a picture of our heirloom tomatoes. They are varieties that are older than 50 years, and haven't been bread to be more productive or crack resistant, they are just old varieties that have amazing flavours! Tomatoes are not on the top of my list for favourite veggies, but an heirloom tomato sliced on some fresh sour dough is so delicious! Try it!

Back again is our cherry tomatoes and red field tomatoes!

Last weeks rain got our plants off life support, but summer isn't over yet. So hopefully another good rain soon! We're back to our regular schedule or watering...watering...watering...

The pest pressure is unreal this year, most likely due to the heat and lack of rain this summer. So my kale is completely eaten. I am planting a new batch now for the fall, which tend to do better. And kale does have the most amount of vitamins and is its sweetest after the first frost!

Also getting planted/seeded this week; another batch of leaf lettuce, winter- radish, turnips, beets, spinach and head lettuce for late fall harvest! We're almost done the marathon of planting, seeding, and watering and it will all be worth it come September! My favourite time of year!
