Farm Happenings for September 23, 2020

Wild Coyote Farm is now Real Organic Certified!

While we believe that the Certified Organic label is valuable and the best label available to look for when purchasing, there are some shortcomings to it. The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led organization that is fighting to protect the Organic label. Their mission “is to grow people’s understanding of foundational organic values and practices; crops grown In soil and animals raised on pasture are fundamental to organic farming.“ Their first goal was “to create an add-on label to USDA certified organic to provide more transparency on organic farming practices.”

Real Organic Farms:
Increase Soil Fertility
Promote Biological Diversity
Rotate Animals on Pasture (not in confinement with access to “outdoors”)
Improve the Sustainability of Farm Systems
Build Community (we are happy and eager to talk in depth about how we grow and why)

And for those reasons we got more certifications! It is definitely a hassle to maintain these certifications, but as farmers we believe these labels reflect the practices of the farm and are directly tied to the ability for food to be restorative to both the eater and the land it came from. Insist on quality you can trust!
