Farm Happenings for October 22, 2019

Posted on October 17th, 2019 by Emily Asmus

New item alert- For the 1st time ever we are offering sweet potatoes! They are not pretty, but they sure taste good. We've been enjoying them this week cubes and fried for breakfast- so delicious. You squash this week are the big ones:  New England Cheese, Jarrdale, Hubbard, and Chioggia. They will be too big to fit in the boxes, so we will make a display off to the side- please choose the one that strikes your fancy. All will make nice fall decorations and big good for eating through the winter. Another decorative/edible item on the list today is the beautiful grinding corn modeled with Cora in this photo. We'll do bunches of 3 with their tops for fall display.

On the farm we had a big planting day on Wednesday, getting the full acre of 2020 garlic planted. Fava beans go in the ground today. Then we will continue pulling bulk quantities of roots out of the fields for fall storage: turnips, beets, carrots. Next week we will focus on getting in the storage cabbage. We can forecast continued great eating!
