Farm Happenings for September 14, 2021

Posted on September 8th, 2021 by Emily Asmus

I imagine many CSA families are adjusting to new fall schedules of school, teaching, soccer practice, kid shuttling, lunch packing and more. Good luck and good humor to you all in this season of transition.

On the farm we are also transitioning. The last of the potatoes were harvested on Monday (thank you Labor Day laborers!) Today it is getting seeding with fall/winter covercrop seed. Other ground is getting seeded with the final plantings of fall lettuce and the spinach that will hopefully overwinter for early spring harvest. Fava beans are going in the ground and soon we will start thinking about winter squash harvest.

Its a terribly poor season for tomatoes. We hope to offer you heirloom tomatoes for the last couple of weeks of September. In the meanwhile we're thankful for the abundance of cherry tomatoes.

Happy eating,

Emily
