Farm Happenings for August 31, 2021

Posted on August 25th, 2021 by Emily Asmus

Well Folks, as I write, our well-sunscreened farm crew is spinning like a well-oiled machine bringing in head lettuce. The order will ship out this afternoon, some 2000 heads give or take, and if there are leftovers we'll make sure they go on the list for you! Earlier this week we also brought in yet another installment of potatoes (Purple Majesty for all you blue potato lovers out there) and some downright good-looking carrots.

In other farm news we are happy to announce the relocation and (hopefully) containment of everyone's favorite posse of piglets! Look for them just across the driveway from the farm stand rooting around in wood chips and a section of raspberry canes.

If you've been looking forward to fermenting some hot sauce, wait no longer! We are rolling in Red Ember Cayenne and Helios Habanero, not to mention more of those amazing Havasu stuffing peppers. I've personally been loving a little peach in my pico to smooth out the spice from the diced peppers. Our tomatoes continue to take their sweet time in setting fruit, a point of lamentation for us all, I assure you. We are at the whim of a great many factors and the likely culprit continues to be the heat waves a couple weeks back. When we have fruit it will make its way to you, beloved customer!

With gratitude and a big THREE CHEERS for the end of August!
