CSA WEEK 14

Golden Sweet Corn at the End of this Rainbow!

From droughts to hurricanes to gorgeous rainbows after a stormy day, we sure have had some crazy weather this season! Rough weather usually means rough crops, but we have been doing our absolute best to keep everything irrigated and growing as it should and are pretty proud of the results. We've seen some disappointing yields, as well as had a minor cherry tomato fiasco due to a broken trellis (who knew TOO many cherry tomatoes could be a bad thing?!) However, despite these minor set backs, Warner Farm has had a VERY successful growing season so far. We've had bean harvests like we've never had before and we've been bringing HUGE truckloads of freshly picked corn in every single morning from our fields. Our peppers have been producing beautifully AND plentifully and we're really excited about the direction our peach orchards are heading in. Additionally, we're looking forward to our first ever harvest from our baby apple orchard this season! Very exciting!

Now that summer is winding down though, our summer crops are soon to be with it. We're big fans of warm weather and sweet summer corn, but we're even bigger fans of crisp fall mornings and lots and lots of SQUASH! Winter squashes are our last big crop of the year and we sure do grow a ton of them. Butternut, Delicata, Spaghetti, Sweet Dumpling, and Pumpkins of every type and size. We grow more squash than we even know what to do with some years! Hope everyone is getting ready for squash in the shares. You can look forward to lots of roasted squash, savory squash soups, and delicious pumpkin treats, soon! Starting this week, you'll be offered a different squash in each share till the season ends in October. Store them up for winter or start cooking now. You can't go wrong with squash!
