Farm Happenings for September 14, 2022

Posted on September 10th, 2022 by Trent Loewen

Hi everyone! We're well into September and the days are starting to have a hint of fall. Most of our crew has gone back to school so we have been working hard to get everything done in the daylight.

Last weekend we had a small disaster when someone forgot to open the greenhouse vents and it got way too hot. Most of the ripe tomatoes were cooked, the cherry tomatoes were especially bad. So no tomatoes again this week. It remains to be seen what they'll do from here but I think we'll still get more good ones. We've been pulling onions, leaving them in the field to dry, and the garlic is curing in trays in the greenhouse. The carrots are still small this week as we're cleaning out a planting that got stunted by weeds, but they're great for snacks! We'll also be harvesting broccoli this week, from our second planting.

Your box will be built automatically with only produce in it but everything else is available to swap in. Besides the produce, there is beef from Barnes Creek Ranch, pasture-raised eggs, fresh baking (baked by my Mom), handmade soap from The Sudsy Llama, and our homemade ranch dressing.

As always, if you have any trouble with swapping or anything else, you’re welcome to call/text or email. Trent - 306-883-8832, Lois - 306-883-9289. Also the folks at Harvie are happy to help, reach them at support@harvie.farm.

Have a great week!
