Farm Happenings for September 29, 2021

Posted on September 27th, 2021 by Trent Loewen

It’s a beautiful time of year! The fall colours are amazing! We don’t have a large squash crop, but we do have lots of spaghetti squash. We harvested them all a couple weeks ago and they are curing in the greenhouse. There’s some decorative gourds and mini pumpkins, small pie pumpkins and various other winter squash varieties. The first of the Carmen sweet peppers are ripening so they will be going out this week, as well as all the other peppers. We’ve also been making sauerkraut so there’s some of that to swap into your box.

This is the second last week of the Farm Shares so feel free to stock up. We have lots of carrots and cabbage and they will store well in the fridge for weeks or even months. Kale and chard can be frozen to be used later in cooking or smoothies. And of course the squashes will store for a long time. Unfortunately the potatoes and onions didn't do well so there’s not a lot of them. I do have another crop of beets yet that will hopefully be ready next week, and the lettuce and salad mix are still growing nicely.

Enjoy your week!
