Last CSA Delivery of the Spring!

Posted on May 8th, 2020 by Debra Brubaker

Hi all.

Well, hard to believe this is our last week of Spring CSA! We've been so honored to grow for you and deeply appreciate the role you are playing in sustaining our local food system. Every day, we read how our country's highly consolidated food system had its vulnerabilities exposed during COVID-19 and are thrilled that our community is clinging to a more locally-driven and diversified option.

It's also hard to believe that, as I type this, we are expecting 29 degrees overnight (yes, we spent the day draping sheets over all our fruit trees) only to be followed up in two short weeks by a projected 80 degree day. So, get your plant starts now to get in the ground in the coming week or so.

This week, we'll have eggs! Pullet eggs (18 count) from our young flock and regular eggs from a neighbor who operates an organic dairy farm - these hens are free roaming and we're happy to offer them to you while ours are sizing up.

As I mentioned last week, we will not technically have a CSA this summer, but we will be delivering weekly and we have an option for paying ahead for a discount. Available on our website soon, we will have "Friends of the Farm" gift cards available. These virtual cards never expire and your purchase benefits the farm by providing us upfront revenue (like the CSA model does) for seeding, planting, harvesting and delivery costs. Each week we'll have veggies and eggs (yes, starting in about a month, we'll be loaded up with eggs). For those of you who do not like having to decide what to buy each week, we will be offering a standard non-customizable CSA-style box. For everyone else, you'll just order what you want. We'll send out a message soon about the gift cards and more about ordering through our website. We hope to start delivering in June.

Our State College friend, Chip Mefford has also offered to deliver to your home (everyone else will still pickup at the Friends Meetinghouse) for free over the summer. We suggest you tip him $5 per delivery. We'll be sending you a zone map prior to starting summer sales that shows his delivery area.

I think that's it for now. Don't forget to order your plant starts in addition to customizing your share this week.

All our best to you,

Hannah and Deb
