Farm Happenings for December 19, 2018

Posted on October 22nd, 2018 by Mike Kozlowski

Hi Folks,

I hope that you have enjoyed the chance to eat locally this fall/winter. I'm learning more about vegetable storage each year, and am quite happy overall with the way that things have worked out.

If you happen to receive a pumpkin this week it will likely have some green on it. I've been storing them at about 2 degrees Celsius which hasn't allowed them to fully ripen. I took a green pumpkin into our house recently and after about a week at room temperature it turned a bright orange colour.

For those of you who have signed up, or been auto-renewed for a summer share, I look forward to being your farmer again next year. For those of you new to the program, I would encourage you to sign up for a summer share. Our summer share begins near early July, runs to the middle of October and includes a much larger selection of vegetables than our winter share. For more info you can follow this link http://www.steelpony.ca/food-box/

Many thanks to you for your support of my small farming business. I hope that these vegetables have kept you well fed and feeling good these past month.

Happy holidays to you and your family!

Mike
