Farm Happenings for September 25, 2018

Posted on September 21st, 2018 by Mike Kozlowski

Hi there,

The growing season is coming to a close but we still have a variety of root crops left and I'm hopeful that we'll still be able to surprise you with some crops that grow above the ground. I'm particularly excited about the beautiful cabbage we've got this week featured in the photo above.

This week in our extras section you've got the option of buying an extra pound of garlic. You can expect around 6-7 bulbs per pound.  This garlic is fully cured and ready to last you through the winter. We've got two varieties for sale, Music and Tibetan. Our music bulbs are extra large which means they measure greater than 2" in diameter. Each bulb has between 6-8 cloves. Our tibetan garlic are large which means they measure around 2" in diameter. Tibetan garlic has between 10-16 cloves per bulb. One pound of XL music is $13 and one pound of Large Tibetan is $12.

If you decide to purchase a pound or two and want them to last you through the winter I recommend storing them somewhere coolish like a basement or an attached garage - the refrigerator is too humid for long term storage. They need to be exposed to the air for a week or two just to make sure that any moisture left in the outer layers of paper can dry out. I've had customers follow these instructions in the past and they have successfully stored their garlic until the following August.

Stay warm this weekend!
