Farm Update Oct 28

Posted on October 28th, 2022 by Mike Kozlowski

Today is my son Adler's 5th birthday. Many of you who were customers of ours back then may recall his rather dramatic entrance into our lives when he was born 8 weeks premature in Germany. My wife MacKenzie and I had planned to be in Germany for an extended long weekend - one final work trip for her before she came home and hunkered down to start a family. Our best laid plans fell completely apart and instead of being home to close down the farm and clean up before winter I was managing fairly unexperienced staff from Hamburg who were harvesting carrots and beets in the snow. It was an extremely stressful time for us - would our premature baby be ok? Could the staff manage things back home? Would we end up getting insurance for our 1 month stay in a hospital in a foreign country (we did, after a protracted battle)?

Five years later I'm joyful to say that Adler is a well adjusted and healthy young fella who has completely gown through the challenges his premature birth caused. He loves hanging out on the farm with the workers, he can identify more plants than most adults I know, and he willingly eats a wide variety of vegetables :)

I'm happy to be home, working in this mostly beautiful fall, getting crops out of the ground and closing up the farm for the winter. We are almost done with harvest for the year and it feels good to be sitting on some root crops to be enjoyed later this fall and winter.
