Farm Update September 23rd

Posted on September 23rd, 2022 by Mike Kozlowski

This week on Tuesday we had our first harder frost in the garden. It wasn't enough to damage many of our plants but even a light frost really puts the pressure on the squash family. Fortunately, we were able to get all of the squash out of the field in time and they are nestled away safely. Onions are also at risk with those colder temperatures and we were able to get them out too. Largely due to the hail this year we don't have any crops that I would consider bumper crops...EXCEPT for our onions. I'm not sure what it was, but I have never had onions that have been more consistent, large and healthy than I have this year. The photo above is just a very small portion of the onions that we harvested on Tuesday, now curing on tables in our greenhouse.

Podcast Alert!

At the beginning of September my amazing, smart, funny, adventurous and articulate wife MacKenzie was featured on the Rural Women's Podcast. I really enjoyed listening to her and I think that listening to it would give you the chance to learn a lot more about our farm, our farming practices, how we manage the community and relationship aspect of our crew, and what it is like to be living rurally and producing food in the modern world. Give it a listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1S5QVCv8JkD4QxCcOlBrrt?si=8e63612c63394541 or by searching "Rural Woman Podcast" wherever you listen to podcasts and scrolling back to the September 2nd episode.
