Farm Update May 13

This was the first week of full time work for the farm staff. There are five of us working full time and three people working two to three days per week. It has been fun to start focusing on the farm full time. This week I was still a bit concerned about putting plants outside because of freezing night time temperatures so we have been working on other tasks. Our projects this week have been finishing up insulating our cargo trailer so that it will do double duty as a refrigerator, removing straw mulch from our garlic to encourage germination and growth, and removing landscape fabric from the field so that we can move it to a new location for our squash to grow in this year. We're off to a great start!

New This Week:

Tamminga Farms

  • Asparagus - this asparagus is around for a limited time only - probably just 3 weeks

Notes:

  • Rockridge Diary has temporarily run out of butter. The only other local butter we can get right now is from Vital Green Farms. It is more expensive as it is grassfed, but it is really good.

Here is a how to on doing that. https://harvie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001542514-How-to-skip-reschedule-or-change-a-delivery-location. You can make these changes until the customization cut off period on Sunday night at 7:00pm.

If after the cut off period you learn that you are not able to pick up, please let me know via email at mike@steelpony.ca or text at 403-506-3634. Please do not contact drop site hosts about missed pick ups.

Any orders that are not picked up 24 hours after the pick up window will be donated or used as we see fit in order to minimize waste.

Thanks so much for working with us to support the local economy, strengthen the local supply chain, and connect farmers and producers with eaters.

Enjoy!
