Farm Happenings for September 24, 2021

Posted on September 21st, 2021 by Peter Seely

Spinach and other fall greens awaiting cooler temperatures!

This week's offerings:  We think we will get one last cucumber from the greenhouse, but this week's will be it for cukes! Zucchini probably finished this week as well. This week has either kabocha squash, or carnival squash (acorn type but multi-colored, and sweeter).  They both have excellent flavor!  The cherry tomatoes are just about done; only a half pint available this week. The bok choi has grown a little larger, and is nearly the standard size.  Beets and carrots are both available, and will be for the duration of the season as well.

Coming next week:  You can look for some arugula next week, along with some fresh kohlrabi, and probably sweet potatoes! Onions, leek, and potatoes, too!  Spinach about 1" tall, so maybe two weeks away!

Still summer temperatures!  We have often had our first frost in late September, but that doesn't seem at all likely this season! Good for the sweet potatoes, which need all of the warm days they can get!

Potato digging ongoing in late September and October!  If you would like to come out and join us in the potato harvest, you would be welcome if you have a few hours free!  Saturdays are (likely to be) fine, depending on the weather.  No experience necessary, and no forking or digging required -- our equipment does most of the work!  Send along an e-mail if you would like to come out on one of the beautiful fall days that we traditionally have this time of year, and we can confirm with you before you head out!

Have a good week!
