Farm Happenings for November 13, 2020

Posted on November 6th, 2020 by Peter Seely

Bernadette checking on the status of a greenhouse seeding of spinach; not quite ready for this week, but likely in time for the Thanksgiving, or at least Storage, shares!

This week's offerings: We have a pretty wide selection of items available this week, partly because of the recent warm weather that has allowed some of our greens to grow more than they otherwise would!

Last call for blueberries:  If you would like some (organic, frozen) blueberries delivered with your share this week, head to https://app.barn2door.com/e/32GNQ/all to see what the options are, and to order.  (Also available is the Pine River Dairy butter!) The 5 lb. boxes of blueberries will be placed in black totes, though separate from your veggie tote, so be on the lookout for a black tote if you order the 5 lb. box. (It will possibly be not next to your vegetable tote, since they are packed at different times).  The 30 lb. boxes will be a single, larger, cardboard box, which won't fit into a veggie tote, so look for it in the original cardboard box from Pleasant Hill Farm near the veggie totes.  In either case, there will be a sticker on each box or tote that will have your name on it. Deadline for ordering (for both the blueberries, and the butter) is Monday 6 pm!

Signing up for next year:  We do not have the details all sorted out for next year's plans, but we will, shortly, and then at that time we will send you the announcement via an e-mail!

Thanksgiving and Storage shares still available!  Next week is the optional Thanksgiving share, and three weeks later is the Storage share.  Included in both the Thanksgiving shares, and the Storage shares, are many of the items that you have this week, but will also include Brussels sprouts, fresh cranberries, and (probably!) fresh spinach!  Deadline for ordering: November 13th for the Thanksgiving share, and December 4nd for the Storage share.  (Eggs are not included in the standard shares, but can be ordered separately through Harvie, as can many other items.)  You will get a proposed list of contents, by email, (similar to this one!), after which you can swap, or order additional items, just like any other delivery. During the winter months, we are likely to make a monthly run (for either home deliveries, or to a few select pick-up sites) for the storage crops that we would still have available, in addition to the eggs, butter, syrup, etc.  We will let you know via e-mail!

Thanks much for your support this year! It has been a strange season in many ways, but we appreciate nonetheless your choice in letting us provide you with some of your food!  Like any season, we see that some crops did well, and others could have been better, but by and large we and our crew did a good job, and we are proud of our efforts!  We continue to seek ways of improving, or adding new veggies, and to help us in that decision-making process, we would welcome your suggestions and comments!  Just send us an e-mail!  No "official" questionnaire this year!  Happy fall and winter! Or for those getting the Thanksgiving share, we'll be in touch again next week!
