Farm Happenings for September 22, 2020

Posted on September 19th, 2020 by Peter Seely

Volunteer Anne Ritter transplanting salad mix into greenhouse (with cukes in background) for Nov. harvest!

New vegetable: Sweet potatoes!  Also new for the fall -- hakurei turnips, and the first spinach. (More spinach coming!)  And last of the cucumbers, and dill!

Fall harvesting at full speed! In addition to the normal picking and prepping of the weekly items that go in your totes, we also are working on harvesting the crops that will be stored for several months in our coolers and storage rooms -- including the assorted winter squashes, the potatoes, the carrots and beets, and the onions.  Days are getting shorter, and cooler!  In fact, we had a minor frost last night, with the grass showing a white glean that we haven't seen since the spring!  (Fortunately, no crops were adversely affected.)  Great weather, and colors, to accompany us!

Have a good week!
