Farm Happenings for September 9, 2020

Posted on September 5th, 2020 by Peter Seely

Sweet potatoes coming next week, possibly!

Looks like we have some fairly decent sweet potatoes developing.  Won't be long before we can start digging them!  With many chances of rain in the forecast for the upcoming week, though, the rain could put a damper on those plans!  We will see!

Delicata first?  Of the winter squash, it looks like some delicata will come first.  But buttercup would also be available in the Extras!  Also this week are some nice large white onions, which you could swap out for something else if onions aren't your thing, or if you are still working off of the bag from last week. Leeks and scallions postponed till next week, since busy enough here with the transplanting of fall crops, picking of beans, digging of potatoes, planting of cover crops (immediately after the potatoes are out), and switching out the cucumbers in the greenhouse with some fall greens.  They should hold till then!

Cooler weather a blessing!  Somehow those 90 degree days take a toll on these old bodies!  Great to be done with them for the time being!

Have a good week!
