The Fifth Week of Summer CSA Program is Here!

Posted on July 26th, 2019 by Tadd Petersen

We cannot believe it is already the fifth week of the Summer CSA program.  The team has been busy out in the fields and in the hoop houses making sure new varieties are getting planted and the varieties that have been planted are thriving in the high heat.  This week, we are excited to offer bell peppers for you select for your CSA share.  Crisp, crunchy bell peppers will store best in the refrigerator.  We recommend storing them in a bag in the vegetable drawer. Make sure to keep them dry because moisture will eventually cause them to rot. You can expect the bell peppers to last about a week, sometimes more if stored properly.  These crisp, crunchy peppers are the perfect snack raw and also make a great topping for pizzas and a flavorful filling for quesadillas.  If you are looking for a quick and simple week night dinner recipe, try browning some ground beef in a skillet with onions, garlic and some of your favorite seasoning.  Next, stuff the bell peppers with the ground beef mixture and top with cheese.  Its a quick meal that is both filling and seasonal.  We are also excited to offer jalapeno peppers this week.  If you are looking for some great tips on how to tell how hot a jalapeno pepper is before you use it in your dish, check out this article on Simply Recipes. It can really help you understand the differences in temperature before you use it.  For those that were asking, you can expect fresh from the vine tomatoes in the next week or so!  They are getting very close and should be ready to harvest soon.

As always, we look forward to seeing how each of you use the ingredients in your CSA share this week.  Let us know by tagging us on Facebook or Instagram and we will share it with the rest of our growing CSA community.

Thanks!
