Farm Happenings for May 7, 2020

Posted on May 4th, 2020 by Andrea McAdow

It was a beautiful few days of "cooler" weather after the heat wave came through last week. I took a slower weekend and focused on some computer work. My body needs a break sometimes... Its amazing how quickly things come back around, we are already thinking about fall, winter, and next spring. We're finalizing crop plans, placing bulb orders, and securing our seeds. Its helps to do this when the wins and mistakes of the current season are fresh in our mind. It takes time to learn our soil and wonky high desert seasons so that we can fine tune our timing. It makes all the difference in a successful spring or fall crop. A week or two in either direction can greatly affect when crops are ready to harvest.

Otherwise, we're planting some more successions of summer crops this week and prepping beds for our sweet potato slips. If you would like a couple to plant in your own garden, please message me, I should have some extra to sell.

A quick tip for keeping your veggies crisp and fresh in this hot weather: As soon as you get them home give them a nice cold ice bath and then store them in a sealed container or in their plastic bag.

PS I am moving all pick up boxes inside. If you would like to curbside pick up please send me an email before Thursday and we will arrange to do so.

Thanks for being here,

Farmer Andrea
